Being Lazy to Update

Haven't been updating for the past couple days; been extremely distracted with D&J episodes. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I'm done with Seasons 1 to 4. Now...I don't know what to do. I might just read a book.

But I did say I'll write down a thanksgiving and my happy moments every day, so...I'll lump it all in here.

Friday 30 January 2009
Happy Moments:
- waking up to find Season 4 of D&J in

- lunching at Jurong Country Club with the whole team

- cake AND ice cream for dessert!

- overcoming my fear of dentists to finally visit the dentists

- discovering a new dentist who's so much better than my previous one

Thanksgiving:
I am thankful that I have friends who can make me smile and feel better even when I'm feeling really low.

Saturday 31 January 2009
Happy Moments:
- laughing and joking with Calis in the morning

- waking up when the sun was streaming in

- having the whole afternoon to myself

- having the family come home in the evening

- laughing and joking with Calis before bed

- staying up late watching D&J episodes back to back

N.B.: I actually wrote out this post on Sunday morning...but changed the date on it. It looks nicer that way, having January's entries actually dated as January.

Tutoring is taking over my life

Today was just a lovely day.

No work came in, simply because the people who would be sending in the documents are on leave for CNY, and I had plenty of time to catch up on some of my filing. There is a whole lot more to do though, and I only have less than two weeks to complete it all. Time for some overtime, I suppose.

Tutored Kay after work. She and her brothers are simply terrific. And I got lucky too, when it comes to getting students with decent parents. Too often, I've met parents who expect too much, push their children so much, and expect miracles from me. Let me tell you one things: if your child is failing a class in August, there's no way he/she is going to be scoring As by October, unless he/she is a genius and had previously put in zero effort. And uh...no, 'genius' isn't the word I'd use to describe your child.

Anyway, two tutoring assignments now, so that's going to keep me a little busy. But I'm loving every moment.

Happy moments of today:
- drawing a picture with Kay and co. after our lesson

- having Kay actually be interested in her lesson

- Kay's grandmum sitting down with me and telling me that she likes the way I teach Kay, and that Kay enjoys and looks forward to my lessons

- Watching American Idol. Parts of it, anyway. It's one of my guilty pleasures; I know it's mindless, it sometimes annoys me, but I love it anyway.

Today's Thanksgiving:
I am thankful that both my tutoring assignments are with great children, and decent parents.

And tutoring isn't really taking over my life. But it forms an important part of my life, and I'm glad I'm happy with my assignments.

The Path to Happiness

In today's Mind Your Body section of the paper, the cover story is about how health and happiness go hand in hand. Apart from the alliteration, what caught my attention was the bit in the article giving advice on the areas you should look into to kick-start a happier life.

Reading through it, I realised...I'm way ahead of them! I've been doing all that! Sure, there are times when I'm less than euphoric, but I get over those moments. Every now and again, it hits me: I'm happy!

And that revelation just makes me even happier.

Here, have a look at the article for yourself. (click for enlarged view)

And that's why I'm leading a happier life now.

3-in-1 Update

Monday 26 Jan 2009
Happy moments:
- Waking up to find that Season 2 and 3 were both in

- sisters, BILs and kids coming over

- playing computer games with niece and nephew1

- Lo hei! (So what if we're not Chinese?!)

- The FOOD: prawn roll crackers, bak kwa, kueh lapis, sago pudding, bubur hitam, yusheng, peking duck...okokok no more talk of food; I'm hungry!

I am thankful that I grew up in a multi-cultural society, in which I've learnt about other cultures and traditions. Years ago, I experienced culture shock, in that I realised that not everyone understood and accepted people of other races and religions. As schoolchildren, we got to go on excursions to Chinatown, Little India, Geylang Serai, as well as places of worship (and historical value) like Sri Mariamman Temple and Sultan Mosque.

And it gives us a great excuse to participate in fun traditions such as lo hei. :D

Tuesday 27 Jan 2009
Happy moments:
- sleeping in

- staying in bed all afternoon watching D&J

- nasi briyani for dinner!

- finally eating the McD's sundae that I bought on Sunday.

I am thankful for my brother. He's eight years younger than me, but he's a friend and a confidant like no other.

Wednesday 28 Jan 2009
Happy moments:
- going back to work after a long weekend, feeling like it was Monday, then seeing Bunny's post about how it was a Wednesday-that-feels-like-a-Monday-but-is-actually-a-Wednesday-which-means-it's-three-more-days-to-the-weekend

- rediscovering the love that is Edward Monkton (thanks to Bunny)

- shopping. Yes, money might not buy happiness, but retail therapy sure is fun!

- discovering a Cotton On outlet.

- new tutoring assignment with a 6-I'm-turning-7 year old boy who's just full of mischief

- discovering that kid's mum is pretty decent too

I am thankful that I still have my passion for children, and for teaching children.
Tutoring gives me the opportunity to still teach, give individual attention and reap the rewards of teaching...without the BS that comes with working in a school.
Oh, and extra cash as well. ;)

The Quest for the Perfect Pair of Boots

I am still on this quest. Problem with living in a place that's summer-all-year-round, is that we almost never get good boots. I could wait for the Fall/Winter collections, but they're still not perfect. And I demand perfection.

I've seen some lovely boots on the Victoria's Secret website, as well as other places online, and Victoria's Secret is having a sale! on boots! but I'm wary of buying footwear online. I gotta try before I buy, to ensure I'm getting the perfection that I deserve.

So the quest continues.

In the meantime, I shall be content with my killer heels.

Stolen from Bunny

In the words of Bunny:

Be happy!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Here's to a happy and prosperous Year of the Ox!

~~

What a lovely day. I got to sleep in, and managed to do a few chores. Mum called me in the evening and said they were coming home to drop off groceries, and they're going to Starbucks, asked if I wanted to go along.

So I did. Chai tea latte is love. (Although I still say the chai tea latte at The Coffee Bean is way better.) I do quite like their blueberry muffin, but I know I can make better ones. Since I haven't felt like baking muffins, I'm just sticking to Starbucks muffins.

It was such a pleasure being at JP! For the first time ever, I was actually relaxed. Why? Because everyone was home for their reunion dinner, that's why! JP was soo empty! We got a great table at Starbucks, took our time without people hovering over us hoping to get our table. It was lovely! Of course, we couldn't get any shopping done as most shops were closed...but hey, I'll forgo shopping if I can chill out at JP Starbucks without having to negotiate the swarms!

Of course, it wouldn't be good if JP is always that empty. As wonderful as it is to wander around without getting elbowed or having to dodge people...well, an empty shopping mall just means that the economy really has gone under. Go on people, go out there and shop! I can't boost the economy single-handed!

Anyway, on the way home after Starbucks, Bro decided he wanted a McD's sundae. So we swung by McD's; Bro and I went in, and got double cheeseburgers and sundaes all round.

That reminds me! My sundae's still in the freezer!

Today's thanksgiving:
I am thankful that the economy is still holding strong. Ok, it's holding on. As much as people complain about the government, at least they're going to make sure we survive the recession. (Ha, how's that for being brainwashed?!)

Today's happy moments:
- Having the first season of Drake & Josh come in. I used to watch it on Nickelodeon all the time, before we cancelled that channel.*

- Watching the entire first season of D&J. Oh, the memories!

- Hanging out at Starbucks with the family, drinking my chai tea latte

- Double cheeseburger!

- Remembering that my sundae is still in the freezer.
(predicted happy moment: actually eating that sundae)

- Mum coming into my room because Sis and I were making loads of noise while playing, despite it being bedtime for Sis.

Best part of it all? The weekend's not over yet! Wahey!

* Why? Why did we cancel Nickelodeon! The best shows were on Nick! Including but not limited to: The Secret World of Alex Mack, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Rugrats, and best of all, Blue's Clues, with Steve and Blue and the Handy Dandy Notebook!

Updating before I get too comfy

Today's thanksgiving:
I am thankful that I've found positivity in my life. I've become a much happier person because of it.

Today's happy moments:
- sleeping in

- having an afternoon nap, even though I slept in

- KFC for dinner!

- checking my bank account to see that I got paid

- knowing that these days, if I stay home it's by choice, not because I'm too broke to go out

- Deciding to watch You've Got Mail and reliving the Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks.

- Laughing at the technology. Remember the sound of dial-up?

- coming up with a great makeup commercial idea with Bunny. Trust me, it's great.

And now...I've got a date.

Quiet Friday night

That was odd. I couldn't access my blog earlier; kept getting an error message from Google.

Anyway. Am tired, and am going to sleep, so I'll dive right into

Today's Thanksgiving:
I am grateful that my brother and I are as close as we are. There are eight years between us, which is quite a lot, but I've always been closest to him, out of all my siblings.

Today's happy moments:
- Finally getting to eat a double cheeseburger that I was craving all day.

- Having a filet o'fish as well.

- Friday pig out!

- Eating oranges. I wasn't allowed to eat oranges growing up, so in my mind, oranges are still treats. And every Chinese New Year, I stuff my face with oranges. And they were free, free!

- Talking to Mum about...nothing, actually. Just talking to her makes me happy.

I still have my sister's goodnight cuddle to look forward to.

And...long weekend!

But first, I'm going to catch up on my sleep.

My ankle's beginning to hurt though. Turned my ankle pretty badly on the way home, and now I'm beginning to wonder if I should have put ice on it.

AND I'm hungry. Even though I had two burgers and fries for dinner.

But first...sleep.

More happy moments? Woohoo!

How amazing was today? The answer to that is: very!

If having so many happy moments wasn't enough for one day, I had a great evening after work too!

Tutored Kay again today. I found myself so excited as she started picking up what I was putting down. It's an amazing feeling when your kids just start understanding, and you see their eyes light up.

Her brothers are a riot as well. Played Uno with Kay and Lee, and sort of played hide-and-seek with Jay.

Kay gave me a lovely bracelet, which she made herself. She wanted to give me something, because she likes me. And today was only the second time she saw me! *heart melt*

Then again, maybe she's just buttering me up so I won't start scolding her. These kids are smart...

But they're so full of joy and laughter and life; I can't help but fall in love with them.

So yes, more happy moments:
- teaching Kay, and seeing her face light up with understanding

- playing with the kids

- discovering that Kay's grandmum knows mine, Kay's mum is a friend of my old schoolmate...it's a small world after all!

- bus ride home. Temperature was perfect, I had my ipod, it was great

- checking my phone bill balance, only to discover that my account is in credit and my next bill isn't due for a week or so. Only $0.63, but that's still 63 cents less that I'll have to pay next time!

- getting the shower fixed. I was even wearing my low-rise jeans, so yes, crack showed. Hey, if you're going to play a plumber, you gotta look the part! I'm just missing the beer gut, but I can work on that

- realising that there are good DJs at Zouk this Saturday, and next Monday and Friday.

- realising that I have enough money to go to Zouk all three nights if I so decide. It's a great feeling not to have to worry about money, or being unable to go out because I'm out of cash.

Today's Thanksgiving
I am thankful that I have been granted the ability to teach children, and to have my passion for children. I love what I do; I do what I love.

Seems like just yesterday that I was saying:

Tomorrow! Is Friiiiiidaaaaaay!

How time flies when you're loving life.
