Avengers: Infinity Phoar!

-- spoiler free --

Watched Avengers: Infinity War yesterday - rushed down after work to watch the earliest show possible.

After all the build-up, all that excitement, all that suspense... I wasn't disappointed. I've read some reviews that seemed that some people didn't like it all too much, but I just loved it.
It's always interesting to see how closely the MCU movies align with the comics (or how far they deviate from them!) and quite a few moments in this one were expected... but I still found myself oohing and aahing and laughing and crying....

As always, this blog remains spoiler-free. So this is all I'm going to say:

SO. MUCH. EYE. CANDY.
Rawr!!!

Something Strange

Oh, what a lovely evening it was!

It started off really hectic - Ma needed to go to the dentist, so I brought her and BabyGirl across to the dental clinic about half past ten in the morning. However, they said they were fully booked, and walk-ins would have to wait for a few hours at least. Went to a different dental clinic, where they were also pretty busy, but they could free up a 3pm slot. I took that slot, but we went to a different dental clinic, just to check. Turns out that door number 3 was also busy, and it looked kinda dodgy as well, so we ended up just having breakfast, and going home to rest.

Oh, and the rain was super heavy today! Bro came home so he could bring Mum for the afternoon appointment - I had an appointment of my own to keep.

Yesterday was Kay's birthday (omg, she's 16. She's so old. I cannot), and we'd made movie plans for today. She'd already seen Doctor Strange, but she did say she'd like to see it again. So off we went to watch it.

It was amazing! Benadryl Cumbersome really blew me away with his acting and the visuals were just incredible. I generally can't watch 3D movies because of 1) glasses, and 2) migraines, and boy oh boy, there is NO way I could have gotten through this one in 3D. This one would definitely have induced both nausea and migraine. I'm feeling somewhat nauseated just thinking about it!

It is SO much fun hanging out with Kay. I enjoy our conversations and banter so much, and there's nothing like watching a geek movie with a fellow geek.

After the movie, we both grabbed Starbucks (yay, Sbux Xmas drinks!) and meandered about while talking about Supernatural. I'm so thrilled to finally have a RL friend who's into the same shows I am! We were just geeking out for a while, and talking about the show and the characters.

Before we grabbed coffees though, Kay had asked if there was a stationery store anywhere around, and there was. So after we finished our coffees, we took a break from geek talk for a while to...uhm...nerd out a bit more. About pens and notebooks.

Ended up buying a couple pens and a small sketchbook for her, and four pens for myself.

Mmm, new stationery makes me happy.

Which reminds me, I mentioned that I got my 2017 planner - the 2016 yearly planner is the first one that I've had, that I've actually used to the end of the year! - but I'd gotten too distracted with the Harry Potter pretty to post a picture of my new planner.

yes, I've already started writing in it

So anyway. Back to Kay and nerding out.

As we made our way to an easier Uber pick-up point, we started talking about Supernatural again. We were talking about the character Lucifer, and which Lucifer was our favourite.

(spoiler alert for those who haven't actually seen it - but if you haven't seen it by now, you prolly never will - Lucifer was played by three different actors who are all part of the main cast)

So there we were, walking across the road, and I was talking about Lucifer in my normal speaking voice (read: loud). Kay shushes me because...look, we were talking about the devil in public - Supernatural fans probably get really weird looks from people when they talk about the show.

Me being me, of course, I just started going on and on about how much I love Lucifer, I can't decide which Lucifer is the best, how good-looking Lucifer is, yadda yadda. Kay tried speeding up slightly and was all "I don't know you!" to which I just slung an arm around her shoulders and continued talking until we both just cracked up.

And here's an awww moment - Kay then admitted that she'd missed me.

Altogether now: Awwwww!!!!!

And I'd really missed her too. Is it weird that I enjoy hanging out with someone half my age so much? Then again, some of the people I enjoy hanging out with are more than twice my age, so I guess age really is just a number.

I'll prolly drop by some time next week to pass her my Harry Potter books. She wants to read them! Oh, this makes my geeky little heart so very happy.

I don't know if I should envy her or pity her, for not having to suffer through the years of waiting for the next book to come out. I mean, she won't have to suffer the agony...but I made such good friends and read such good fic in the interim!

Hmm, I should start pulling up the fandom classics for her to read too.

...wow, I'm a nerd.

Quote of the Day

"You haven't really failed, son, because you haven't really tried to succeed. So don't credit yourself as a failure. You're worse than that." -- Bill Franklin, Take Me Home Tonight

The past four weeks have been filled with family and fun. And food. Oh my gawd. So. Much. Food.

Will update when I can move again.

Toy Story 3

I just finished watching it. Yes, finally. I just don't get what the big fuss was. Yes, there were a few awww moments. But nothing that made me actually cry. Perhaps I'm becoming cynical in my old age. Perhaps computer animated toys don't quite tug at my heartstrings as much as actual living, breathing humans do.

Nope, Woody and Co. didn't make me cry. You know which cowboys DID make me cry? Jack and Ennis, that's who.

Rule #32: Enjoy the little things

Sometimes, the little things involve staying in on a Saturday night, nursing a headache by watching Zombieland.

I really enjoyed it. Even if Snaggle did keep interrupting with emails. The strange thing is that when I told him I was done watching...no more emails. One would think he was interrupting just to annoy me...

Anyway. While watching the movie, I spotted several tropes and realised that this movie is pretty damn genre savvy. Of course, I had to see what else I'd missed, and....well, let's just say now I have to watch the movie all over again!

Perhaps not just yet though. Having visited Zombieland Tropes, I now have about a million tabs to go through.

Also considering Wall-E. I never did finish watching it.

Might just go get me something to eat as well. I'm hungry. Probably because I barely ate the whole day. Which might have contributed to my headache...hmm.

On another note, I gotta start running again. I was walking in the rain the other day (it was brilliant!) and I reaised how much I missed running. Yes, I enjoy running in rain.

Besides, I definitely have to get back in shape. Rule #1: Cardio.

Great start to the weekend!

It was a lovely, relaxed day at the office.
Left the office early even, because my ride to town had to leave early.

Got to town, went to Ion. First time I'd been there (walking to the train station doesn't count). I'd decided to look for boots, and was hoping that Steve Madden might have a good pair. Alas, it was not to be.
Slightly disappointed, I wandered to the other shoe shops (great concept, Ion, to have the same type of stores in the same section!) and ended up in Aldo.
There was a pair of boots. Black. Leather. Knee-high. Heels.

It was the last pair - it was the display piece.

It was on sale, with a further reduction if I put it on my card.

It was in my size.

It was meant to be.

So yes, it might not be the perfect pair of boots - the quest continues - but I love it anyway.

Ambled along to 313. Another first! I'd never been here til now. Anyway, got myself another Discworld novel. Decided to get me a 10 minute shoulder massage.
Am now at Coffee Bean, enjoying my chai tea latte.

Waiting for P, then we'll meet TSY. Yay, haven't seen her in ages! Dinner - the current consensus is Marché. Yay, haven't eaten there in yonks! Going for a movie after - Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant. Yay, haven't seen it, ever!

I'm having a wonderful day. And it's not over, and the weekend's just begun!
Life is sweet.

To top it all off, I'm having a great hair day. :)

Bunny was right; today's note is definitely meant for me.

Some people just have big hearts, Ki. And with this gift they're very often able to feel, offer, and show far more love than they receive from those around them. Which, at times, is a heavy load to bear. So today I'd like to remind them, and especially you, that the sun asks not that the moon and planets help brighten each day, but relishes her role as a keeper of the light and a bringer of the dawn. A role much like your own.

Happy weekend, from the Sun and I -

5 days into 2010...doesn't time simply fly when you've having a blast?

I know I said this about 2009 (and I was right!), and I'm saying it again. 2010 is going to be MY year. I'm not sure what lies ahead, but I look forward to finding out!

In the meantime, I'm just going to enjoy the little things. Like watching Avatar in 3D with Bunny this evening.

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

iCaved

I'm now the proud owner of an iPhone 3GS. White, 32gb.

It's so purty! Got it delivered today. So yet another reason today was a lovely day. For starters, I got to stay in today, and had time to myself. Watched a couple movies on HBO, one of which was the film adaptation of the book I'd just read - The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. The book, of course, was more detailed and explored the characters a little more, but as film adaptations go, this one was quite decent!

Other things that made me happy today include, but are not limited to:
- Calis, as always
- frozen yoghurt
- listening to Drake Bell music
- cheesecake

Hmm. What was that other movie I watched today?
I don't remember now.

In the meantime, I gotta go to bed.

Oh, and I had a dream that had VK the Bastard Ex in it. It was strange - he was dressed in a suit, and his hair was greying. He actually looked rather good, in a distinguished way.
But I was still avoiding him out of fear. I think that's very telling. But then I was at a beach, and the water was calm. I dream of water a lot, and the water is always a reflection of my emotional state. So yes. Peaceful, calm, relaxed and beautiful. :)

Edited to add:
I remember now. It was Ten Items or Less. And made the grammarian in me go "It should be FEWER."

Always read the book first

Just finished watching Coraline. I'd wanted to watch it for quite a while now, but was just never in the mood.

As always, the book was better. That said, I enjoyed it immensely.

A lovely close to a relaxed weekend. Now to get to bed, so I can wake up early for work tomorrow.

Busy week ahead!

Oh, and Half-Blood Prince opens this week. As with all the Harry Potter installments, I'm pretty sure that it won't be as good as the book. Will that stop me from watching it? Of course not!

But first, to sleep. I'm sleepy.

Movies!

Watched Angels & Demons on Saturday.

As always, I preferred the book, although I must confess to not liking Dan Brown's books all that much. I find them all rather...anti-climactic, really.

That said, I did enjoy Angels & Demons far more than The Da Vinci Code - both book and movie.

Tom Hanks is looking OLD though. Especially since I saw bits and pieces of Sleepless in Seattle on tv recently, and watched You've Got Mail a couple months ago.

Not only has he gotten old, he's packed on the pounds quite a bit too.

Ewan McGregor looks somewhat different too. And how dare he make priests look sexy?!?

Went to Lido cinema, and felt so old school! I haven't been there in years! It's been a while since I've watched a movie in a big hall like that, instead of the cineplexes with about 10 tiny halls. I think the last time I was in Lido was when I was still in school!

Remember the days when you'd go watch a movie at Lido after school, and the entire hall would be packed with uniformed kids?

Anyway, so many other movies I want to watch as well.
Perhaps I'll catch a couple this week.

Still haven't seen Wolverine. Am ashamed to admit that I'm tempted to watch Star Trek.

And some great movies coming soon too! Yes, I shall declare one weekend for me, popcorn, maltesers and a movie marathon.

I had a lovely weekend. :D

Snatching from the Cradle

Watching 17 Again, and realised for the first time that Zac Efron is actually rather hot.

Well hey, at least he's legal.

Anyway. Before the movie, I met someone.

Someone who genuinely wanted to know what I wanted. Who listened to what I had to say. Who gave me what I wanted and needed, made sure I was fully satisfied, and even talked to me after. Plus, I got a number to call whenever I want those needs met again.

Yes, I met a new hairdresser.

Loved the haircut - the one I got previously was by someone who really didn't give a shit, and clearly didn't know how to handle curly hair. It's still a mess of curls, but at least it's got good shape to it. Decided to go back on Sunday to get highlights. I quite like them!

Anyhoo. It was a great weekend, and I had a great time with Bunny on Saturday, and enjoyed some me-time, just having lunch, reading, and getting my hair done.

Today, one of the head guys told me that he's glad they got me on board.

Yes, that made me very happy. :D

Life is just falling into place, piece by piece. :)

Closing a lovely weekend

Watched Bedtime Stories with my bro and younger sis today. Not one of Adam Sandler's best, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. And as in all Adam Sandler's films, I enjoyed the cameos.

Bought a new pair of sunglasses, for only $19.90! I quite like them too.

Met up with Tink and TehTarik in the evening, and went to JP. My gosh, that place is always packed! Ended up having sushi for dinner, as it was away from the mall and hence, not crowded.

Happy moments of the day:
- Singing Give Thanks in church; that's always been one of my favourite hymns. I'm still humming it!
- Laughing with TehTarik and Tink in that cute stationery shop at JP
- Giving Tink her Christmas gift, and seeing her face light up
- Coming home to find that the baby nephew was here
- Just being with family

Today's thanksgiving:
For the past few days, I've been thankful for Mum, Dad and BabyGirl. Today, I give thanks for my family. They've always been there for me, and each individual is beautiful in their own way.

A new work week starts tomorrow. I have my yellow dress all ironed and ready to wear.

Must wake up early, because the bro starts school, and I don't want to have to fight for the bathroom in the morning.

Oh, saw a diamond ring at Soo Kee that I really really liked, and it was the last day of their sale. I admit that I was tempted to get it, thus fulfilling #66 on my list. But reason kicked in and I decided that I definitely do not want to be totally broke for the rest of the month, so wisely walked away. I did get me those sunglasses, so I'm happy!

Right then. Time to get ready for bed. Chances are that I won't actually go to sleep for a while yet, but hey, hope springs eternal!

3 Days In

Wow, it felt good waking up late today! And not having to go to work.
Met up with TehTarik at West Mall for a late lunch. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as crowded as I'd thought it would be. Ended up buying stuff at Watsons. TehTarik and I agreed that even if you don't need anything, you can walk into Watsons, and find something that you do need/want. The good thing about spending money at Watsons is knowing that you're not wasting money - that is, if you're getting toiletries, and not some of the rubbish that they do have. After all, things like toothpaste and cotton pads do get used! Unlike shoes..*eyes shoe cupboard guiltily*

Found this little booth at West Mall that sells OPI nail polish for far cheaper than nail salons do! Of course, we ended up getting a bottle each. And went to her place and painted our nails.

Did you know that Pastamania does delivery? I didn't, but I do now!
*burp*

Semi-watched a couple of movies: The Darjeeling Limited on dvd, and another one that I can't quite recall right now.

I did say I only semi-watched it.

Finished watching the movie just in time to catch Whose Line Is It Anyway? and as always, it was a great laugh. I love the rapport between Colin and Ryan.
Gotta admit, I don't quite find female comedians as amusing...

Left her place shortly after to meet up with Yvonne. Hadn't seen her in ages, and it was good catching up again. She's another person whom I admire a lot, for her positive outlook on life.

Happy moments of the day:
Joking with my mum and BabyGirl before leaving to meet TehTarik
Finding a really nice OPI nail colour
Cuddling BabyGirl and tucking her in, and getting a kiss
Watching Whose Line
Hanging out with TehTarik and Yvonne

Today's Thanksgiving:
I am thankful for my sister, who is the epitome of courage and optimism and determination.

Just heard this song on the radio, and this line always stands out for me:

You can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself

Only three days in, and I'm having a great year so far. I feel the same way Bunny does, so I'm going to quote her here:
"All in all, 2009 has been great so far. Sure it's only the beginning, but I think it's an indication of how things are going to be for the rest of the year. And you know what? I like it. "

Weekend!

I did tell Bunny last night that I might go in to work today. If it was raining when I woke up, I'd stay in bed, if it was sunny, I'd go to work.

Well, it wasn't raining when I woke up, but it was also almost 1pm when I woke up, so going to work? Prolly not. Must go in next Saturday and the Saturday after though.

Going to meet TehTarik this afternoon. She's been pretty down, so I hope she feels better soon.

Spoke to VH this morning. I think he's pretty much the only ex that I'm still in contact with. Well, in contact and on good terms, that is. I'm glad that we got in touch again. I don't miss him the way I would a lover, but I have missed him as a friend, and it's good to hear that he's doing ok. Not great, but I have my hopes.

So that's my Saturday pretty much filled up, and it looks like my Sunday's going to be full too. Church in the morning with the folks, then Bro and I have decided to watch Bedtime Stories. Was talking to Mum about it this morning, and decided to bring Calis along as well. That way, she gets to enjoy a movie, and Mum gets to do her own thing.

Hm, that reminds me. Gotta go look at movie times and book tix for us.

I love today's affirmation:
I keep my promises; People can depend on me.

For far too long, I haven't exactly been the kind of person that people depend on. Sure, when there's a family emergency, I'm there. When there's a crisis, I might show up. Other than that? Not really.

But today is the first day of the rest of my life, and I'm changing that.

I keep my promises. People can depend on me.
