But of course, Murphy reared his annoying head.
Needed to hand over documents to a courier, who was supposed to pick them up by 4. At 3.55, I called the agent and was told that the courier was delayed, and would be here by 5.
I called close to 5, and was informed that the courier was yet again delayed, and would only be able to get to my office in "thirty to forty minutes". Well, seeing as how I'd have no way of getting out of here (I don't particularly like walking 15 minutes through the shipyard to get to the bus stop), I just decided to get the hell out of Dodge.
I might as well have waited.
Seeing as how it was pouring buckets out there, I decided to ask my colleague to drop me off at Kent Ridge, where I could be sheltered, instead of at Yuan Ching, where I'd get drenched. I thought, I can run my errands at the hospital mall, I can get stuff for Baby Girl, I can even drop by Starbucks.
Alas, I discovered that my wallet was not in my handbag. With a sinking heart, I realised that not only could I not run any errands, I didn't have any way of getting home! Worst of all, no Starbucks for me!
It was just past six at this point, so hoped that VV, who works at the hospital, might be able to lend me some cash, but she'd already left the office. So I called Shoes, who lives near the hospital, and she told me to go on over. The rain was still coming down hard, no sign of it letting up, so I just thought meh, I'll leg it.
10 minutes later, I was just down the street from Shoes'.
And the rain had all but stopped. Yep, Murphy is clearly in cahoots with Mother Nature.
Showed up at Shoes looking like a drowned rat.
She passed me cash, which was enough for a bus home, and then cab in the morning to the office. left her place at 7, and I waited for the bus. And waited. And waited some more. Bus finally arrived, and it was packed. But I was tired, so I boarded the bus.
I might as well have waited some more.
There was another bus right behind the one I was on.
So remember how I didn't want to wait for that courier? If I'd waited, I would probably have gotten home about 8. With several items checked off my to-do list. And even if I still forgot my wallet, I could've come back to the office to grab it.
I got home at about 8.30. With nothing accomplished. And no Starbucks.
