Life in Progress
I have so many half-written blog posts that I never got around to finishing and posting.
There have been so many things I've wanted to blog about! But it seems I'm too busy living life to actually write about it! Hopefully I'll get some downtime soon, in which I'm not too knackered (and lazy!) to complete said blog posts.
In the meantime, I'm late for work. Whoever invented early morning starts was one sadistic freak. Of course, if i actually went to bed before 2am, the mornings might not be so painful...
I needs me some coffee. Lots of it.

Masochism
I clearly do have masochistic tendencies. Why else would I keep insisting on doing this to myself?
Work is going well; I have things under control, and I don't have to work overtime any more. Backlog is all cleared, hurrah!
Thing is...I have so many assignments to complete. So much reading and research to do, so much presentation preparation, so many deadlines to meet. My fight or flight response started kicking in today, after I received a whole pile of documents at work, shortly after I received new assignments and deadlines for class.
My immediate reaction is usually that of flight. When something scares me, I run. Sometimes, it is the wiser option to run. In this case, however, it would be bloody stupid to run. This time, I'm going to stay and fight. I'm determined to excel. I just need to put in just a little more effort. If I plan my time right, after accounting for office hours, commuting, eating, sleeping and showering... I might just be able to hit 30 hours a week on my studies.
I'll just need to be really disciplined from now on. Which probably means no more staying up til 1am! Unless I'm actually doing work, that is.
Hey, Chip! I know you'll read this so...help me out a bit, yeah? Crack that whip! ;)
I just looked at my calendar again, and there are so many things for me to do! Why oh why do I inflict such torture on myself?

Making Lemonade
Left the office at 4.30, to catch the bus. I must have gotten on the wrong bus, or I'd slept past me stop; I fell asleep, and woke up just before West Mall.
Good thing is that it's not too far from my place; only about a 25 minute bus ride. Decided to go to Watsons to pick up saline, which I've meant to do for ages but kept forgetting.
Even better than running errands is picking up treats for the folks (and myself!). Over at West Mall, there's an Udders outlet. I now have 3 pints of noms. And picked up a mocha ice blend for my babygirl as well. I will prolly sneak a sip or five later.
Got to the bus stop just as my bus was pulling up, and now I'm just a few stops from home.
Definitely worth the little boo boo I made!

Life happened
Vix was planning to come to SG to see Mika in concert. Just after I booked tickets, she realised that work & family commitments clash with the date.
Which means now I have an extra ticket. And nobody to go with. I'll check with Bella if she's free - I know she wouldn't mind going. But it's more fun going with someone who actually loves his music as much as I do, ya know?
Maybe I should just take the whole week off and have fun at Beerfest as well. Any takers?

The Road Less Travelled
Yesterday, one of my closest friends commented that "it's almost depressing to see how [she] could've turned out." I asked her about it, and she said that many of her younger friends are going to med school, which is what she'd wanted to do, but gave up on it.
Of course, that got me thinking.
Ten years ago, I would never have imagined this life for myself. Bella, Kris and I all had our 'time capsule' letters. Everybody had an idea of what I'd turn out to be...none of those predictions came true.
I've given up on some of my dreams. I'm not going to university any time soon. I'm not going to enrol in acting school. I'm clearly not going to be married with kids by the time I'm 25, especially since I passed the quarter-century milestone ages ago.
Fact is, I could have achieved a lot more. I could have studied a little harder in secondary school. Actually scratch that. I could actually have studied a little in secondary school. I know I'm really intelligent. I've been blessed with a good memory (when I choose to use it). My sisters envied me my ability to not study, and still pass tests. On the rare occasion I decided to glance at my books, I ended up acing tests. All too often, phrases such as "does not apply herself" and "has the potential to do better" appeared on my report cards.
'Tis true. I did not apply myself. I did indeed have the potential to do far, far better than I actually did.
I used to regret it. I used to resent others for having opportunities that I lacked. Until I realised that I'd had those same opportunities, and more, all along. I simply chose to ignore them.
I didn't take the standard route. Despite all my abilities, I flunked out of college. I job-hopped, because nothing held my interest for long. Once the challenge of learning something new was overcome (and that usually didn't take long), I'd get bored and decide to move on. I chose to take the easy way out, which only led to a bumpier road.
I could easily look back on my life now, and say to myself that I would've, could've, should've but didn't. To be honest, I do suffer pangs of regret now and again. But I've come to realise that taking the road less travelled truly has made all the difference.
If I had done all the things I'd planned on doing when I was 18, I wouldn't be the person I am today. And I really, really like who I am today!
I'm taking the long and winding road, filled with bumps and potholes. It's taking me a lot longer to achieve my dreams than I'd originally predicted. I'm overcoming more challenges and hence learning more about myself and about life.
I refuse to play the games of "What-If" and "What Could Have Been". I choose instead to focus on What Is, and What Can Be.
Bottom line: I'm having fun. And I'm living my life my way.
It does not do to dwell on dreams...and forget to live.
