I really have to inspect my change more carefully when I pay for anything. A few years ago, I received a few coins as part of my change. After a cursory glance, I put my change in wallet and went on my merry way.
Some time later, I discovered that what I'd thought was a one-dollar coin was in fact a 500-rupiah coin. Which is...not worth a dollar. I've kept it in my wallet since, though, as a 'lucky' coin. And what do you know, since then, my finances have been steadily improving.
This morning as I was paying the cab driver, I counted out what I though was the exact amount. Turns out I didn't have exact change after all; what I'd taken to be a 20-cent coin was... a US nickel.
Well done, me.
